Climate Change
The Basics: What are Greenhouse Gases?
All Drawdown Solutions
I will spend at least 30 minute(s) learning about greenhouse gases and how they can cause climate change.
Food
Smart Seafood Choices
Coming Attraction: Ocean Farming
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean.

Learn About Biochar
Biochar
I will spend at least 60 minute(s) learning about biochar and how it can help sequester carbon.
Transport
Research How to Reduce or Offset Flight-Related Emissions
Airplanes
I will spend at least 60 minute(s) learning about plane-related emissions, alternative fuels, and carbon offsets.
Food
Research all the ingredients in one of your favorite packaged meals
Multiple Food Solutions
I will pick my favorite packaged food item and research the ingredients. Using the resources provided, I will discover what the ingredients are, why they are there, and how they affect my body.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn About BiocharCan biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?
Susannah [email protected] 4/23/2020 4:31 PMBiochar has been shown to increase soil fertility and nutrient preservation in soils that have been depleted in resources and have inadequate water sources. Increased soil fertility stimulates plant growth and nutrient preservation means that less fertilizers need to be used. Biochar also has the ability to reduce the amount of nitrous oxide and methane gas that is released, by plants, into the air. These are potent harmful greenhouse gases. Additionally, the creation of biochar has the ability to repurpose large amounts of agricultural waste, including livestock manure, which otherwise would create methane gas and carbon dioxide during the decomposition process.
