  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Social Justice Learn about Local Indigenous Practices
What did you learn about indigenous peoples' land management that you can apply in your own life?

    Caroline Ceravolo's avatar
    Caroline Ceravolo 5/03/2020 9:45 PM
I can do home gardens, try to do agroforestry and in general try to not mess with the environment/land.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transport Research How to Reduce or Offset Flight-Related Emissions
A round-trip flight from New York City to Los Angeles emits just over 1.5 tons of CO2—per person. That’s a lot of carbon! What can you do to reduce the number of flights you take per year?

    Caroline Ceravolo's avatar
    Caroline Ceravolo 5/02/2020 8:10 AM
    • Instead of doing business meetings in person, try to have as many as possible online.
    • Drive instead of fly for smaller trips.

The New York Times reported today that it's likely that there will be an 8 percent drop in fossil fuel emissions due to COVID-19. However, it worries me that as lockdowns ease, it will get even worse than before. Saddening that many care more about "restoring our economy" instead of the drastic climate crisis & its stakes.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smart Seafood Choices
Many states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?

    Caroline Ceravolo's avatar
    Caroline Ceravolo 5/01/2020 4:24 PM
I looked at the fish advisories for my state: the one fish they say to not eat whatsoever (Northern Pikeminnow) is a fish I've never heard of so that's probably a good thing. They also recommend certain size servings of fish for different body weights, and being that I almost never eat fish + I only eat small amounts, I'm sure that my diet choices fall within the guidelines.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Women and Girls Equal Representation
Would you consider running for office someday? Why or why not?

    Caroline Ceravolo's avatar
    Caroline Ceravolo 5/01/2020 4:19 PM
I possibly would: some of my biggest inspirations nowadays are female politicians (e.g. Elizabeth Warren & AOC) and I find it amazing all the change they are able to do. I think what makes me hesitant is how much of your life is stripped away from you + your privacy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Start or Tend a Garden
How is working in a garden or on a farm good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

    Caroline Ceravolo's avatar
    Caroline Ceravolo 5/01/2020 10:17 AM
Spiritual: You feel more "connected with the Earth"
Mental: Taking time outside can help relieve anxiety & depression.
Physical: Tending to a garden is working outside so you get some sort of physical activity.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate Change Youth Climate Organizations
How can youth climate organizations lead in different ways and/or make more of an impact than other climate organizations?

    Caroline Ceravolo's avatar
    Caroline Ceravolo 5/01/2020 10:15 AM
The youth perspective has more urgency, in my opinion. It's our future so it's more likely that politicians will listen to us since we're worried about our own future. Youth climate organizations are also more likely to target other teens to teach them about climate issues so we can get more teens fighting for climate justice.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Practice the 5 R's
What are some more "R's" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?

    Caroline Ceravolo's avatar
    Caroline Ceravolo 5/01/2020 10:10 AM
Repurpose: Find new ways to use old objects.
Repair: Instead of throwing something out, you can repair it and use less resources.
